The ringing of the Liebfrauen church in Arnstadt

Arnstadt disposes again of a 4-voices ringing. It is dedicated, like the predecessor's ringing, four evangelists. The old bell is at all times assigned from 1585 to the evangelist Johannes. On this bell stands as Bible verse in the original manner of writing:

"SO GOD HAS LOVED THE WORLD, SO HE GAVE HIS OWN SON BORN, ON WHICH ALL ARE NOT LOST TO THEIR FAITH, BUT HAVE AN EVERLASTING LIFE.SO GOD HAS NOT SENT HIS SON IN THE WORLD TO DIRECT IT, BUT TO LET THE WORLD BECOME BLESSED BY HIM"
JOHANN AM III CAP" (John 3,16+17).

Furthermore it carries the inscription:

"BY DIVINE LENDING IS AT THE GOVERNMENT OF THE WELL BORN AND NOBLE MEN; MR. HANS GUNTHERS ONE OF THE FOUR EARLS OF THE EMPIRE; COUNT TO BLACK CASTLE; THIS BELL WAS POURED ON THE 8TH OF OCTOBER, ANNO 1585."

Only one small jewellery relief with Maria and the Jesus' child adorns this bell. On the crown ironing a head of Christ is shown. External creation as well as quotation from the Bible urged to call this bell "Christ's bell". It will only ring for special holidays.

Die Reliefs der drei neuen Glocken

The prayer bell is dedicated to the evangelist Mattew. Symbol of Mattew is the angel. Therefore, an angel is to be seen on a crown hanger. As a prayer bell she shouts for the daily prayer with the request of Jesus: "Therefore you should also pray: Our father in heaven..." (Matthew 6.9). The relief on the bell body reminds in Jesus Gebetskampf in the garden Gethsemane as well as to our prayer which can break through walls.

The baptismal bell is assigned to the evangelist Marcus. Symbol for Marccus is the lion. Also this representation is to be found on a crown hanger."Who believe there and is christened, that will become blest" (Marcus 16.16), says Jesus in the baptismal order after the Markus's Gospel. The graphic representation shows the baptism of Jesus. It is surrounded by "streams of living water". New life arises from the baptism. The baptismal bell sounds to the baptismal service and to the baptismal memory. People should be reminded that they belong by their baptism inseparably to God.

Christian faith lives on hope of the resurrection. About this, the "resurrection bell" tells. It is dedicated to the evangelist called Lucas, whose symbol is the bull, that is also shown on a crown hanger. The message of resurrection is a glad message, that people in grief wants to comfort. The resurrection of Jesus is shown on the bell. Besides, a human is to be seen who expresses in his position that resurrection sprinkles our experiences of life. To funereal services this resurrection bell can be heard and it announces: "Lord has risen. He has truthfully risen" (Lucas 24,6.34). Beside the thanks for the donators who have allowed the acquisition of the new bells all three new-poured bells carry the inscription: "Poured to the anniversary of the 1300-year-old Arnstadt."
